Adulthood Realization: The Noose of Adulthood
Right after homework, reports and finals ceased to exist as part of my life… Well except for reports, I suppose right when I started waking up at 6AM to put on a noose, or as you all call it… A Tie…
What more represents the end of all innocence and freedom but that well designed noose? All our lives we have been groomed to silently accept it…
First its grade school, it’s fun, shit is casual, then somewhere in the middle they come up with this “Uniform” or “Dress Code” for the more PC schools (British system schools employ uniforms more than American I am guessing)
After which comes University, where you are slightly free again but they burden you with little responsibility, like the concept of graduating in order for society to accept you… They put you in a robe, and a cap, an abstract metaphor of what’s soon to come… A full-blown suit.
It’s when I woke up at 6AM because I had to, and this was a different kind of “had to”… I have missed many finals due to their impromptu timings… This was a weird “had to” and I got up, and put on my “uniform” and as soon as I slipped on that tie, all my youth, energy, zest, love for life (the latter three never existed in the first place, but that’s just me) suddenly transmuted to a distant memory of a faded dream…
Now, I am part of the corporate machine as it devours my soul, chew it, churn it around, spit it out, and award me with a cheap ass pen , and if I’m lucky a “good-for-nothing-pawn-shop-reject “commemoration, for all my years of service… Oh, and for putting on that damn tie…
